This talk will describe what the benefits are of the Real Time Linux kernel. Who can benefit from it, and who can not. The topics of what Hard and Soft Real Time is and where Real Time Linux fits in those definition. Is it Hard Real Time or Soft? Finally, what is done to make Linux into a Real Time kernel will be discussed.

Steven Rostedt is one of the Maintainers for the Real Time Linux patch. He is also the maintainer of ftrace, the Linux kernel tracer. He has been coding in the Linux kernel since 2000 mostly focused on Real Time activities. Co-author of O\'Reilly\'s \"Building Embedded Linux Systems\".Currently employed by Red Hat.
